on my journey to find pre-loved fabrics with an australian story, to create bags with a story that will then continue with the buyer

    almost summer

    Photo

the sun is out, the surf is up and the forecast for monday is 26° - summer is coming!! what a week: found an expert bag maker and a new challenge, facing some of the same issues and got quite a few things done.

my friend melli and i worked on designing bag model 2 yesterday. strongly supported by her 6 months old, who was testing webbing and metal rings for durability (and taste ;-)). i will work with hemp webbing for the next prototypes, although i can see the inconsistencies in dyeing that have been pointed out to me. to-do for me today - call another webbing expert and hope he has access to cotton webbing. would you have thought that 50mm canvas cotton or hemp webbing is the most difficult thing to get in australia?

i had a call with the ceo of surf lifesaving australia today to get the approval for using the material. understandably he had more important things to do first, but he said he would discuss it with his marketing and branding guys next week. everybody please keep all body parts crossed that i will get a chance to present my bags and get the approval!

as for the picture - view while having breakfast this morning in curl curl, northern beaches, australia :-)

  • songlines's Space

crafted from re-used australian materials, songlines' products inspire you to explore their past and create their future ... bags with a story. the start of the journey.

the name 'songlines' was inspired by the dreaming tracks of indigenous australians, which are invisible paths across the land (or, sometimes the sky) which mark the route followed by a localized 'creator-spirit' during the dreaming. The paths of the songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance, and painting ... I want my bags to pass on similar stories :-)
