    botox - first try

i got heaps of ideas on how to solve my wrinkle problem - thank you so much everyone! i even got a powerpoint slide with a whole heap of recommendations :-)

to try a fix as quickly as possible my first try will involve using a different metal ring - the metal is thicker. let's see if that already makes a difference.

i will get different strap material on monday. the sample piece that i have looks thicker! that will be try number 2 then. as the webbing will be send to melbourne for tinting, my try number 2 might be delayed .. or i just cut a bit off the roll to try it ..

the ideas i got on how to solve my 'wrinkle' problem and some initial comments from my side:

    - run a line of stitching along the top one like you have the bottom one to fix it in place.....could that work?
a: the strap should still be adjustable, if i run stitching along both sides that would no longer be possible. i'll keep it in mind however, the fix might come in handy in another spot :-)
    - change the angle at the bottom - line it up with the force involved (so the metal is perpendicular to the angle the strap ends up)
a: if i want to use a wide strap from a design perspective it would be all wrinkled in the narrow end. mmh, i'll think about it
    - put in a pivot like you see commonly on computer bags
a: a pivot has been used on another bag that i purchased a while ago. if i can find the right kind of metal pivot i will give it a try!
    - move from a rectangle to a circle so is less noticeable
    a: circle .. haven't considered that option yet ..
    - or a semi circle - flat side for wrinkle free, curved for the support (basically another form of the pivot)
a: saw another bag with the semi circle option - it also moved and encountered the same problem as my bag
    - more narrow metal ring
a: something i have been looking for for a while .. i just cannot seem to find any :-(
    - webbing and metal ring wider
a: the webbing/strap is 50mm - that's as wide as the standard sizing goes
    - reduce inner radius on metal ring and ideally make it square
a: i hope to apply this idea in my first wrinkle. my metal ring is not square but has a reduced radius due to the thickness of the metal
    - use webbing/strap that is stiffer
a: hopefully the strap material that i want to use is as stiff as i imagined it - it should arrive monday!!!
    - enhance webbing/strap in the area that goes through the metal ring
a: last resort, but has been the approach on another bag i own
    - use a strap with higher stability against lateral deformation, e.g. a leather strap, which is thin and soft enough like calf leather
a: i hope the new strap material has a higher stability - let's see how it performs in user testing :-)

  • songlines's Space

crafted from re-used australian materials, songlines' products inspire you to explore their past and create their future ... bags with a story. the start of the journey.

the name 'songlines' was inspired by the dreaming tracks of indigenous australians, which are invisible paths across the land (or, sometimes the sky) which mark the route followed by a localized 'creator-spirit' during the dreaming. The paths of the songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance, and painting ... I want my bags to pass on similar stories :-)
