songlines ... bags with a story

on my journey to find pre-loved fabrics with an australian story, to create bags with a story that will then continue with the buyer

loads of things to think about today!

i saw mr. invention man yesterday and came back on a high and low ...
    - he has heaps of knowledge, and can improve the production process of my bags from a time and assembly perspective -> great :-)
    - he doesn't have cotton/hemp webbing or metal rings -> there was my problem again :-(
    - he pointed out the difficulty of making a bag out of reused material, as the cutting of the material can't be optimized (normally the fabric is stacked one on top of the other and then machines 'stamp' out the pieces) when the material does not come as a role of fabric -> knew that, already working on solving that problem partially :-/

and a NEW problem - work cover in australia seems to have restrictions when it comes to using reused/recycled material in manufacturing. it is ok to use new materials that are probably treated with heaps of chemicals, but used ones are an issue ... great - something i didn't even consider :-(

I was just having a conversation this morning about how rules and regulations in Australia can make it difficult to do anything, either for cost reasons or due to something like you describe above. Lines in the sand are hugely annoying. Sometimes you need to blur them

@ franksting One of the most common replies is always - it is possible in China/Asia. Isn't it sad that it is okay to get the products manufactured in other countries, often supporting potentially questionable production environments, but it is very difficult to do things in a good way here ..

That's if u accept the assumption it really is "questionable". The avoidance of "risk" isn't always a good thing, especially if it becomes too hard to get things done.

  • songlines's Space

crafted from re-used australian materials, songlines' products inspire you to explore their past and create their future ... bags with a story. the start of the journey.

the name 'songlines' was inspired by the dreaming tracks of indigenous australians, which are invisible paths across the land (or, sometimes the sky) which mark the route followed by a localized 'creator-spirit' during the dreaming. The paths of the songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance, and painting ... I want my bags to pass on similar stories :-)
