songlines ... bags with a story

on my journey to find pre-loved fabrics with an australian story, to create bags with a story that will then continue with the buyer

how to make songlines stories 'stick' - first trial candidates identified

printing the individual stories onto each bag seems to be one of the main challenges i am facing. my initial print disappeared when washed for the first time :-(

i just ordered a sample of the product called bubble jet set, which is supposed to help set when you print on it, to see if it does the trick .. and now i read that the stuff is really toxic. great, nice reused or organic materials but printed with toxic stuff - not where i want to go!

funnily enough by reading about the bad components in bubble jet set, i suddenly came across alternatives. so as soon as the 'bad' product arrives i will open my lab and start experimenting to see what the best solution is.

    • option 1: bubble jet set
    • option 2: undiluted softener - is there an environmentally friendly alternative to that?
    • option 3: mixture of water, alum, washing soda and fabric softener

has anybody experimented with these things already?

  • songlines's Space

crafted from re-used australian materials, songlines' products inspire you to explore their past and create their future ... bags with a story. the start of the journey.

the name 'songlines' was inspired by the dreaming tracks of indigenous australians, which are invisible paths across the land (or, sometimes the sky) which mark the route followed by a localized 'creator-spirit' during the dreaming. The paths of the songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance, and painting ... I want my bags to pass on similar stories :-)
