to avoid future songlines stories to disappear as soon as the bags get wet, i have to find a way to make the print more permanent. i tested four different options:

    1. bubble jet set 2000 (has been used for years for ink jet printing; difficult and expensive to get in australia; potentially toxic) - NOTHING
    2. fabric softener only - BLUE
    3. mix of fabric softener, alum, bicarb, hot water - RED
    4. no treatment - BLACK

last minute i remembered to mark the different fabric samples to make sure treatment and result could be matched.

option 3 was pretty bubbly. let's see what the final result will be. right now the fabric samples are 'hanging out' and have to dry ..

crafted from re-used australian materials, songlines' products inspire you to explore their past and create their future ... bags with a story. the start of the journey.

the name 'songlines' was inspired by the dreaming tracks of indigenous australians, which are invisible paths across the land (or, sometimes the sky) which mark the route followed by a localized 'creator-spirit' during the dreaming. The paths of the songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance, and painting ... I want my bags to pass on similar stories :-)
